Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your use of Astra AI Detector and the free tools available at astradetector.com (together, “Astra”, the “Service”, “we” or “us”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Astra is an AI text detector and a small set of writing utilities that run in your web browser. When you paste or upload text, the analysis is performed locally on your device; the text you check is not sent to, or stored on, our servers. Astra estimates how likely a passage is to have been generated by AI and shows sentence-level signals to support that estimate.

Astra is provided free of charge. There is no fee, subscription, paywall or purchase required to use the detector or the tools, and no account, email address or payment details are needed. Because the Service is free, it is offered without any commercial guarantee of availability or fitness for a particular purpose (see “No warranty” below).

AI detection is probabilistic. No detector, including Astra, can guarantee 100% accuracy, and results can include both false positives (human writing flagged as AI) and false negatives (AI writing not flagged). A result from Astra is an estimate and a signal, not proof of how a text was written.

You agree not to treat a result as conclusive evidence and not to make a decision that affects a person's academic standing, employment, reputation or legal position on the basis of a Astra result alone. Consider context, corroborating evidence and human judgement, and, where appropriate, speak with the author. You are solely responsible for any decision you make using the Service.

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the Service will always be available, that results will be accurate or complete, or that any defects will be corrected.

You agree to use the Service lawfully and responsibly. You must not:

• use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, deceptive or infringing purpose;
• use a result to harass, defame, discriminate against or falsely accuse any person;
• attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or interfere with the Service or the servers and networks that deliver it;
• submit text that you do not have the right to submit, or that contains others' personal or confidential information without a proper basis;
• misrepresent Astra's output as a definitive verdict.

You keep all rights to the text you analyze. For the AI detector, the AI Humanizer and our other in-browser tools, all processing runs on your own device, so we do not receive, store or claim any rights over that text. You are responsible for ensuring you are permitted to use the text you submit and for complying with any obligations that apply to it.

The AI Humanizer rewrites your text using an AI model that runs entirely inside your browser, on your own device. The model file is downloaded to your browser once (about 270 MB) and then cached, and after that the rewriting happens locally, so the text you enter is not transmitted to Astra or to any third-party AI provider. Your use of the feature is governed by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy.

You agree to submit only text that you own or are authorized to use, and not to submit unlawful content. Because the rewrite happens on your device, your text stays private to you and is not uploaded anywhere. The rewritten output is generated by AI, provided “as is,” and may contain errors or unintended changes in meaning; you are solely responsible for reviewing it and for how you use it.

You must not use the AI Humanizer to misrepresent authorship or in any way that breaks the rules or policies of your school, employer, publisher or any other institution — complying with those policies is your responsibility. We provide the feature to help you improve honest writing, and to the fullest extent permitted by law we accept no liability for misuse of the feature or for reliance on its output.

The Service relies on third-party providers to operate and to remain free. These include analytics (for example, Google Analytics, which helps us understand aggregate, anonymous usage) and third-party advertising networks that display advertisements on the site. Content delivery networks and font providers are also used to load parts of the page.

Advertisements are provided and served by third parties. We do not create, choose, control, endorse or take responsibility for the advertisements that appear, or for the products, services, offers or websites they promote. Any advertisement shown is not a recommendation by Astra, and any dealing you have with an advertiser — including any purchase, communication or reliance on its claims — is solely between you and that advertiser, at your own risk. We are not a party to, and are not liable for, those dealings.

These third parties may use cookies and similar technologies and may collect information as described in their own privacy policies. How this data is handled, and the choices available to you (including opting out of personalized advertising and analytics), are explained in our Privacy Policy.

The Astra name, the site design, and our original text and graphics are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable laws. The Service also uses open-source and third-party libraries, which remain the property of their respective owners and are used under their own licenses. You may use the Service for its intended purpose but may not copy, resell or misrepresent it as your own.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Astra and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, reputation or opportunity, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including any decision made on the basis of a result or any interaction with a third-party advertiser. Because the Service is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid to use it, which is zero. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

We may add, change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms from time to time; the current version always lives at this URL, with the “last updated” date shown above. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the operator's place of establishment, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If you use the Service, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with the laws that apply to you. Any statutory consumer rights you have under your local law are not affected by these Terms.
